The last thing on your mind when trimming your tree or hanging up lights may be keeping safety in mind. However, it's not a bad idea to give everything a once over before, during, and after you set up your holiday displays this season.
Here are a few quick tips to get you started.
1. Keep your Tree Away From Heat Sources
Christmas tree fires are a sad reality and one that can be prevented by keeping your tree hydrated and also away from any sort of heat sources. You'll also want to make sure that your Christmas lights are new and that the wires aren't frayed.
2. Speaking of Trees
Be sure to turn your tree off at night. There's no reason to keep it on and, if there is an issue with your lighting, the middle of the night is the last time you want to have an issue.
3. Use Unbreakable Ornaments
While this may not be as important for homes that don't have small children or pets, using unbreakable ornaments is an easy way to make your tree less trouble.
4. Don't Burn Wrapping Paper in the Fireplace
Your chimney sweep will tell you the same thing. You don't need to burn wrapping paper in the fireplace. It can catch on fire super quickly and lead to more issues.
5. Work as a Team
If you're hanging lights outside of the house, be sure to work in tandem if possible. You don't want to end up like Clark Griswold!
