It isn’t the typical spring. That’s for sure.
And gardening may not be the first thing on your mind right now.
However, for some, tending to their gardens or backyards may be something that is therapeutic during this time. If that’s you, then we have a few tips on how to get the lush areas of your home ready for spring in the Lehigh Valley
Take a Look Around
Depending on how often you look at your garden or backyard, you may want to take a walk around and really see what you’re working with. Is there anything you should fix right now so it’s not an issue later? Figure that out now.
Tune Up Your Equipment
Make sure the lawnmower works now before you need to actually use it. Same goes for any tool you plan to use this summer. There’s nothing worse than a last minute trip to the hardware store!
Check Your Hoses
Sure, this can go under tuning up your equipment, but it’s important and can end up saving you money. If you have a hole in your hose it’s best to find it now rather than the morning after a leak.
Plant new beds
Digging the soil adds oxygen and adding compost can create fantastic soil. Add four inches of compost or your favorite product over the soil to a depth of 10 to 12 inches in total. Then rake before planting.
Add New Trees and Shrubs
You’ll want to plant these as soon as you can so they have time to take root by the summer.
When in Doubt, Mulch
Adding a layer of mulch around all of your plants now can help you prevent weeds in the future!
